Previous research has shown that loneliness during adolescence is seen to predict mental health problems in later life. This research stream investigates how real-life experiences of social disconnection influence changes in reward and aversive processing over time in each individual. We hope to explore how these changes at the individual level predict changes in adolescent mental health over a 3 year period. Additionally, we hope to study how real-life experiences of adolescent loneliness impact structural brain development.
