Through this research stream, we hope to explore the factors that contribute to individual differences in social disconnection and the related mental health outcomes. We seek to understand how individual differences might affect vulnerability to adverse mental health outcomes when experiencing social disconnection. Through data from large-scale national surveys, we aim to explore the pathways of how social disconnection impacts adolescent mental health.
Digital technologies are becoming an increasingly big part of social interactions among adolescents. Through research stream, we also hope to study the impact of adolescent social media use on dimensions of social connection. For more work on Social Media, check out our Teens & Screens Project
